We were tasked with developing a comprehensive custom wine label design for Vieira Wine by Markian, ensuring that it truly reflected the company's core values and ethos. The custom wine label design for the inaugural collection of wines was meticulously crafted, drawing inspiration from Markian's first-ever furniture collection. This connection between the furniture and wine collections highlights the elegance and modernity inherent in both, seamlessly blending the two into a cohesive brand image.
The name "Vieira," which translates to scallop in Spanish, serves as a powerful symbol of the Camino de Santiago, the famous pilgrimage route that traverses Spain and leads to the historic city of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia. This renowned Gothic Cathedral, dating back to the 9th century AD, is believed to be the burial place of Saint James, one of Jesus’s apostles. The Vieira emblem is deeply intertwined with the identity of this significant and spiritually enriching journey, embodying the spirit of adventure and devotion that characterizes the Camino de Santiago.
After Saint James’s execution under King Herod Agrippa I in AD 44 for promoting Christianity, which had been banned by the Romans, his followers took possession of his body and transported it back to Galicia. It wasn’t until the 9th century that Pelagius, a hermit, discovered James’s relics. This discovery sparked the pilgrimage tradition, attracting thousands of pilgrims each year to honor the apostle’s legacy.
The Camino de Santiago, depending on the time of year, can take around 35 days to complete the 825-kilometre journey, assuming an average daily walking distance of 25 kilometres. This timeframe allows pilgrims or enthusiasts to experience the full breadth of the route, enjoying the diverse landscapes and rich cultural heritage along the way. The journey is not just a physical challenge but also a profound spiritual and cultural experience, reflecting the enduring legacy of Saint James and the historic significance of the Camino de Santiago.
